The congregation was first organized as the Mount Carmel church around 1840.  When the church and parsonage burned down in 1879, the church relocated.  The lot had been purchased by M.J. Cunningham for $150 from the William A. Thorpe estate in 1873.  It was donated to the church.  The secretary, gavel, and songbooks survived the fire and were brought to the new church, which was now called the Keatchie Methodist Episcopal Church, South.  .
The first pastor was Rev. J.M. Liverman.  Services were held the first Sunday of the month at the Methodist church.   Services were held at the Baptist church on the second and fourth Sundays and at the Presbyterian church on the third Sundays.
How to Get There:
From Hwy 171, head west on Hwy 5 for 3,9 miles to the church (which is just before you get to Hwy 789).
