Rev. Willie Jackson,
Jr. was appointed to start a new congregation in June 1989. The new
congregation began in the building that had been used by the Cedar Grove
United Methodist Church. That structure had been built in 1939 under
the leadership of Rev. Jolly B. Harper.
The vision for the
new church was for it to be a mission church with a worshipping congregation.
It was organized from June 24, 1989 to September 9, 1990. The church
had forty-nine members by the time of its first charge conference on October
15, 1989.
Cedar Grove, which had been
organized in 1914, shared the facility with Faith until 1995. At
that time, the Cedar Grove congregation merged with the Morningside congregation.
Faith UMC continues to maintain
an active Outreach Ministry. It works with other local churches in
ministries such tutoring and in providing food and clothes to people in
need. |
