The church was organized in
1866 with seven charter members: Lizzie Heflin, Matt Heflin, Susan McCrary,
Ed Kennon, Susan Myrick, Eliza Boyett, and Jim Heflin. The first
church was a log cabin situated southeast of the present church.
The church location later changed after the V.S. and P. Railway donated
land to the church in 1882. A new frame church was built on the site.
A building fund was started
in 1945 while Rev. C.M. Morris was pastor. Construction started under
the leadership of Rev. E.A. Keasler in June 1947. The first service
in the new $10,000 building took place on the first Sunday in October of
1947.
The Ellen Hall, named in honor
of Mrs. Ellen Holoman, was constructed from 1961 to 1964. |
