     The church was established in 1881 at the Sudds Plantation.    At that time it was named Providence Methodist Church.  Some of the early founders of that original log church were the Sudds (Joseph, Solomon, James, and Grant, Sr.),   Sim Anthony Rawls, Hattie Jackson, Molly Johnson, Mary Cooper, Bertha Bailey, Will Freeman, Charlie Adam, Mim Lincoln, and Sampson Blow.  
     In land currently occupied by the church was deeded to the trustees on February 9, 1887.  The first four acres were donated by Lydia E. Dean.  Darrlyn and Joyce Middleton also donated 0.76 acres.  
     In 1899, the church was renamed Bonchest.  The original church built at the site was destroyed by a storm.  It was rebuilt in 1950.  
     Founder’s Day is celebrated each year on the second Sunday in November.
How to Get There:
    From Hwy 84 in Mansfield, take Lake Rd. (Hwy 509/175) north.  After half a mile, turn left and take Hwy 175 north.  After 2.8 miles, turn right at Sloan Rd.  The church is 3.4 miles ahead on the right.
