The St. James Church was established
in 1862 on the old Fashion Plantation. The plantation’s owner, Civil
War general Richard Taylor, lost the plantation but the church continued.
The church relocated in 1875
to its current location. It was in the newly created town of Hahnville,
named after former governor Michael Hahn. In 1965, that structure
was destroyed by hurricane Betsey. It was soon rebuilt and that structure
is in use today. |
