Rev. Robert Philips organized the
St. Peter Union Methodist Church in 1904. A church was built at 7822
Forshey Street. It was later renamed Philips Memorial and joined
the Methodist Conference under the leadership of Rev. J.S. Dickson.
When the old church became run
down, Rev. O.C. Daigle led the drive to build a new church. The present
church was built in 1958-59 under the leadership of Rev. Arthur Robinson,
Jr. During construction, services were held in the education building
for eleven months. The sanctuary and education building were dedicated
on June 9, 1968 under the leadership of Rev. E.C. Slater. The addition
of air conditioning and carpeting was started during Rev. Slater’s pastorate
and completed while Rev. H.L. Milo served the church. The chancel
was also extended. Air conditioning of the education building was
completed under the leadership of Dr. Max R. Butler. |
