       Newell Chapel was established in the early days of the Mississippi Mission Conference, which first met in December 1865.  Its design was to educate African-Americans for the ministry.  The original structure stood where the current church now stands.
       The church was rebuilt in 1886.  Under the leadership of Rev. G.C. Hayward, it was remodeled in 1917.  
       In 1971, the present church was built.
      The church’s first anniversary celebration, for its 111th anniversary, was held while Rev. Nathaniel Perry served as pastor.
How to Get There:
    From I-12, take the Mandeville-Covington exit and head south.  When you get to the Hwy 190  intersection, turn left and head east.  Go 2.6 miles and turn right onto LaMarque St.  The church is 0.7 mi. ahead on the left.
