The church began
in 1933. Rev. A.M. Martin came from Houma in a Model A Ford and held
services (in French) under a tree at the home f Walter Hunter, Sr.
Some local residents were looking for a church
that they could belong to, while still being members of the Masonic Lodge.
The Catholic Church didn’t allow it. There was another Protestant
church in the area, but it’s said that the Baptist church was burned down
because some only wanted one denomination along the bayou. Walter
Hunter spent more than one night keeping watch with his shotgun to prevent
that from happening to the Methodists.
The current church
is actually located in Galliano, across Lafourche Bayou from Golden Meadow.
It was built in 1964. In 2004, it is in the process of refurbishing
by its members.
