Services began on January 9,
1969 at the Ouachita parish Junior High School. Most of the charter members had
formerly attended the Gordon Avenue Methodist Church. They voted to change
their name and move to a better location in growing southeast Monroe. The new
church was formerly organized by D.S. Rev. W.D. Boddie on May 19, 1969. The
name Reveille means to awaken, to arouse. Banners in the sanctuary are
inscribed with Awake and Arise.
The first appointed pastor was Rev. Karl B. Tooke. Under his
leadership, the church was built on 4.5 acres of land along
Nutland Road. Construction on the 3200 square foot church was
completed in 1971. A 2400 square foot education building was added in 1974
under the leadership of Rev. Ray Spillers. The exteriors of both buildings are
covered with a deep coral-colored redwood paneling. The debt on both buildings
was retired on April 13, 1986 under the leadership of Rev. Gene Kimble.
Three members of the church
Amos Price, Johnny Hankins, and Stuart
Sherman
have entered the ministry. |
