The church was organized in 1912.  The Pioneer Methodist Episcopal Church, South was on a circuit with three other churches at that time.  The first church was built of wood.
Land to the east of the original structure was donated to the church by the Vining estate.  A new church was built on that property in 1965.  It was dedicated in 1967.
Over the years, Pioneer has shared a circuit with Campbell, Epps, Floyd, Forest, Kilborne, and Oak Grove.
How to Get There:
Take exit 153 from I-20 and head north on Hwy 17.  At Pioneer, turn left (west) onto Hwy 588 (Cherry St.).  Turn right on 3rd St. and then left on Ash St.   The church is on the right.
