In 1857, settlers from Georgia moved to Jackson Parish.  The families, which included the Carrolls, Hearnes, Jordans, and Shells, became active in the Brooklyn Methodist Episcopal Church.  They later helped to establish the Mt. Pleasant church in 1859.
The Concord church began in 1909 on land donated by the Barnes family.  The first services were held under a brush arbor, and a church was later built.  Electric lights were added during the Depression.  Air conditioning was added in the 1960s.  The fellowship hall and bell tower were added in the 1970s.
The present church is the third one constructed on the site.  The pews and pulpit were built by former pastor Rev. Falcon Hearne, who grew up at Concord.  Several ministers have come out of the church.
How to Get There:
Head to Chatham on Hwy 34 (from the north/south) or Hwy 4 (from the east/west).  About 2 miles west of the Hwy 4/34 intersection in Chatham, turn north onto Concord Rd.  The church and cemetery are on the right after 0.6 miles.
