In August 1949, local Methodists began research into a new church in south Crowley.  Led by Rev. W.C. Barham (at Centenary in Rayne) and Rev. Alfred Brown (at First Church in Crowley), a survey was made in the area in September.
The first service for the fledgling group was on October 16, 1949.  It was held in a building (owned by Crowley’s Presbyterian church) on the corner of Elm Street and Avenue I.  U.G. Barham gave the sermon and Rev. Ted Howes (pastor at Gueydan) led the singing.  After several nights of services, the new congregation had fifty-four charter members.  The group chose the name “Wesley” for their new church and Rev. Barham was appointed to serve as their first pastor.
How to Get There:
Take exit 80 from I-10 and head south on Hwy 13.  After 2.2 miles, turn left on Elm St.  The church is 3 blocks ahead on the left.
