Mr. Dan Mullens and others in his community in Leesville had to travel to Hawthorne to attend the Shady Grove Methodist Church at the end of the 19th century.  Desiring their own church in Leesville, they asked Rev. Braddock of Shady Grove to help get a church started.  In January 1898, Rev. Braddock received permission to start a church in Leesville.  A small wooden building was constructed on property owned by Mrs. Nettie Kirk.  That site later became the location of a Buick dealership.  Services began in the new church in May of 1898.  The structure also served as a school.
The church was renovated in 1915 under the leadership of Rev. S.H. Hayes.  It was again remodeled in 1858 while Rev. E.L. Berry served as pastor.
