In 1908-09, Sunday School classes
began in Elton. They were held in a variety of locations
warehouses,
schools, stores, and homes. At the time of a 1909 tent revival, a
young man passed away. Realizing there was no church to hold services,
the Protestant families began raising funds to build a structure.
A lot at 803 2nd Street was purchased from the Aylsworth family for $100.
With the help and donations of local people, the church was built in 1910-11.
It was completed in June of 1911.
Classrooms and a pastors study
were added in 1958.
On September 30, 1994, the church
was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is a rare
example of Gothic Revival architecture in Jefferson Davis parish.
