| BACKGROUND
Although the idea first surfaced in the 1970's, it was put aside to allow for the production of the history book on the Louisiana Conference. The idea was taken up again in the 1990's by Tim Hebert, who accumulated material on the Acadiana District while working on Methodism Along the Bayou ... a history of Methodism in the Houma-Terrebonne area. After putting together a basic historical register for the Acadiana District, the Louisiana Conference Commission on Archives and History was consulted. They agreed to help out with the project and dedicated funding to pay for the costs. At the 1996 Annual Conference, a photographic display of the Acadiana churches and the Acadiana District Historical Register booklet and was put up. Copies of the Acadiana booklet were distributed to the Commission, the Bishop, the Acadiana DS, and the Archives. The same was done for the New Orleans and Baton Rouge Districts at the 1997 Annual Conference. |
