In 1900, Rev. T.A. Hampton led
residents of the Grand Ecore community in organizing a new congregation.
Those first services were held under a brush arbor along the banks of the
Red River. A church was later built under the leadership of Rev.
Gable Gosten. It was later remodeled in 1911. The cornerstone
is dated September 24, 1911. The current church was dedicated on
November 28, 1920 under Rev. G.G. Golston. It is located just to
the south of the Red River.
An elementary school was started
at the church in 1938. While holding class in the sanctuary, a two
classroom building next to the church was constructed in 1940. The
church was remodeled under Rev. Alex Johnson. The work included new
pews, a kitchen, and a bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom were renovated
in 1999 and a new central A/C unit was added. |
