Date Founded
 1953
Methodist preaching began in the area as early as the 1820s and 1830s.  There is some evidence that a church was built in that time.
In the early 1900s, members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South joined with local Masons to construct a two-story building.  It was used for Mason meetings (on the 2nd floor) and church services (1st floor).  When membership declined in the 1930s, the church closed its doors.  Most remaining members joined the Lecompte Methodist Church.
The present Cheneyville UM Church was organized in 1953.  Construction of the building began in January 1954, with services beginning shortly thereafter.  The building was dedicated the following year on May 29, 1955 as a “Church School Building.”
How to Get There:
Take exit 56 from I-49 and head into Cheneyville on Hwy 101.  Turn right (south) on Hwy 71 (Front St.).  After 6 blocks, turn left on Wadsworth Ave.  The church is 1/3 mile ahead.  It is on the right side of the street.
