| In the late 1800's, a group of Berwick residents
met together and decided to build a church. At first, they met in
houses and later rented a store to use as a place of worship. A building
committee was eventually put together under the leadership of Rev. G.A.
Payne. A contract was made with Brownell and Drew Lumber Co. and
construction began in 1900. The cornerstone was laid by Golden Ark
Lodge #2224 on June 9, 1901. The pastor at this time was Rev. S.
McGruder. This church building is still in use today. |
